Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP)

Delivered by BDO’s Digital Advisory team

Activating a strategic digital adoption plan for your business

In a digital-first world, Canadians have changed the way they do business. To remain competitive and grow, small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) need to adopt new digital tools.

The Government of Canada announced its $4 billion Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) to help SMEs boost or digitalize their business operations.

The CDAP provides funding and support to businesses, and as a Qualified Service Provider (QSP), our Digital Advisory team at BDO can provide digital adoption plans to your clients, subsidized by the CDAP grant.

What is a digital adoption plan?

A digital adoption plan is a technology strategy and roadmap to help SMEs achieve their business goals and increase competitiveness in the digital economy.

How does it work?

The CDAP grant covers up to 90% of the eligible cost of retaining the services of a Qualified Service Provider (QSP), up to a maximum grant value of $15,000 per SME, to develop a digital adoption plan.

What types of technologies can clients adopt?

Customer relationship software, ERP, network security software system, as well as other technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics.

Who is eligible?

The grant eligibility includes Canadian businesses that are:

  • Incorporated federally, provincially, or as a Canadian resident sole proprietor.
  • For-profit, privately owned business.
  • Have between 1-499 full-time employees.
  • Not more than $100 million in revenue in one of the past three tax years.

You can start the process by completing the CDAP assessment tool to determine your digital maturity and whether you qualify for the Boost Your Business Technology Grant:

How do clients benefit?

  • Improved digital capacity and opportunity to be more competitive.
  • Improved productivity and bottom line.

SMEs with a completed digital adoption plan are eligible for an interest-free BDC loan of up to $100,000.

Following the completion of the digital adoption plan, BDO’s Digital Advisory team will work closely with you to scope out potential and continued involvement (i.e., solution selections, fit/GAP, governance, project management, implementation support, POCs, etc.)

BDO’s Digital Advisory team has developed the following CDAP approach to help SMEs develop and activate a strategic digital adoption plan:
